Affordable Therapy for Children & Teens
High-quality mental health support—at a cost families can manage.
Welcome to Child & Teen Counseling
If you’re worried about your child or teen, you’re not alone. Many families wait to get help—not because they don’t care, but because therapy feels out of reach financially.
We created our Affordable Therapy Program so your child can get support sooner—without the high cost of traditional private-pay therapy.
You. Hi. Welcome to Child and Teen Counseling. I am the Executive Director, Kent Tussant. I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist. I'd like to take a moment to tell you a little more about who Child Teen Counseling is and how we can support you and your family.
First of all, we are a 501 c three nonprofit organization in Woodland Hills, California, with two main objectives the first objective is to offer affordable mental health care to children, teens, and families.
For example, a five year old little boy struggling with anxiety and fear because his family is going through a divorce, maybe is an angry 14 year old girl who is lashing out at her family, her friends, her teachers, because she doesn't know how to really cope with the uncomfortable feelings inside of her. Perhaps it's a young man who's graduated high school and has lost all his motivation, doesn't know what his passion is, and just feels lost on his path in the world. It could even be a parent who is just at her wits end, and she's trying to connect with her kids, she's trying to set boundaries, she's trying to guide them, but she just feels like she's hitting her head against the wall.
We want to help, and the way we want to help is with objective number two, and that is to be an elite training program for pre licensed therapists to compassionately and effectively work with kids, teens, and families in a therapeutic way to help them be happier and healthier in their lives.
That can be individual therapy, family therapy, couples therapy, group therapy, parent education workshops. We want to be an active member in the community and help support as many people as we can to live happier and healthier lives. I invite you to read through our website, watch some more videos, get to know more about us, and then go to the contact page and give us a call.
We're happy to take the time to talk with you about what your concerns are, what your goals are for your help with that. Also, to stay in touch with us, please follow us on Facebook. We're going to constantly be listing new workshops, new seminars, new articles, new videos to help support you as best we can. Thank you so much for spending time here at Challenge Counseling, and we look forward to speaking with you soon.
If You're Seeing These Signs, It Might Be Time to Get Support
Sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s “normal” and what’s not. Many parents come to us noticing changes like:
- Pulling away from family or spending more time alone
- Increased irritability, anger, or emotional outbursts
- Loss of motivation, changes in sleep, or school struggles
- A sense that something just feels “off”
You don’t need to have all the answers to take the next step.
What Therapy Is Actually Like for Teens
Therapy isn’t about forcing your child to open up.
It’s about creating a space where they can feel comfortable enough to start talking—at their own pace.
In the beginning, sessions focus on building trust. Over time, teens learn how to:
- Express what they’re feeling
- Manage stress and anxiety
- Improve communication
- Feel more confident and understood
A More Affordable Way to Access High-Quality Care
- Child Teen Counseling is a nonprofit organization focused on expanding access to mental health care.
- Our Affordable Therapy Program allows families to receive support at a significantly reduced cost.
- Many sessions are provided by highly trained graduate clinicians, working under the close supervision of experienced licensed therapists.
- This model allows us to maintain quality care while making therapy more accessible to families who need it.

Supporting Your Child While Respecting Their Privacy
We work closely with parents—but therapy is also a space where teens can speak openly.
We’ll help you understand how to support your child at home, while also creating the trust they need to benefit from therapy.
We’ll walk you through exactly how this balance works before you begin.
How to Get Started
STEP 1 – REACH OUT
Tell us a little about what’s going on with your child or teen.
STEP 2 – GET MATCHED
We’ll connect you with a therapist who fits your needs and availability.
STEP 3 – BEGIN SESSIONS
Your child begins therapy and starts building skills and support.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child actually needs therapy?
You don’t need to be certain to reach out.
Many parents come to us because something just feels “off”—a change in mood, behavior, or connection. Therapy can help whether your child is dealing with something specific or just having a hard time navigating life.
If you’re wondering whether it’s time, it’s usually worth having a conversation.
What if my teen doesn’t want to go to therapy?
This is very common.
Most teens are hesitant at first, especially if therapy wasn’t their idea. Our therapists are experienced in meeting teens where they are—without pressure or forced conversations.
Often, once teens feel comfortable, they begin to open up in their own way and at their own pace.
How much does affordable therapy actually cost?
Costs vary depending on the program and therapist, but our goal is to make therapy significantly more accessible than traditional private-pay services.
We’ll explain your options clearly before you begin, so there are no surprises.
Is therapy still effective if it’s lower cost?
Yes.
Our model is designed to balance affordability with quality. Supervised clinicians are actively supported in their work, and many families find this approach to be highly effective.
Will I be involved in my child’s therapy?
Yes—with thoughtful boundaries.
We believe parents play an important role in their child’s progress. At the same time, therapy works best when teens have a space where they can speak openly.
We’ll help you understand how to support your child while maintaining that balance.
Is what my child says in therapy confidential?
In most cases, yes.
Confidentiality helps teens feel safe opening up. We’ll clearly explain what stays private and what may need to be shared (for example, safety concerns).
We make sure both parents and teens understand these expectations from the beginning
How long does therapy usually last?
It depends on your child’s needs and goals.
Some families come for a shorter period to work through a specific issue, while others stay longer for ongoing support. We’ll regularly check in and adjust as needed.
How quickly can we get started?
Timing can vary depending on availability, but we do our best to connect families with support as soon as possible.
Reaching out is the fastest way to learn current availability and next steps.
What types of issues do you help with?
We work with a wide range of concerns, including:
- Anxiety and stress
- Depression or low mood
- School challenges
- Family or relationship issues
- Behavioral changes
- Social struggles
You don’t need a diagnosis to get support.
What happens after I reach out?
- We’ll learn more about your child and what’s going on
- We’ll help determine the best fit for your needs
- We’ll guide you through next steps to begin therapy
We aim to make the process simple and supportive from the start.
You Don't Have to Figure This Out Alone
If something feels off, it’s okay to trust that instinct.
Getting support doesn’t mean something is “wrong” with your child—it means you’re giving them the tools to feel better and move forward.
We’re here to help when you’re ready.
