You. Hi. Welcome to Child and Teen Counseling. I am the Executive Director, Kent Tussant. I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist. I’d like to take a moment to tell you a little more about who Child Teen Counseling is and how we can support you and your family.

First of all, we are a 501 c three nonprofit organization in Woodland Hills, California, with two main objectives the first objective is to offer affordable mental health care to children, teens, and families.

Children don’t always have the words to tell you when something is wrong. Often, the signs show up in their behavior, their moods, or changes in how they interact with the people around them. Trust your instincts as a parent. If something feels different, it’s worth exploring. Some signs that a child may benefit from talking to a therapist:

  • Frequent emotional outbursts, tantrums, or meltdowns that are hard to calm
  • Persistent sadness, worry, or fearfulness that doesn’t go away
  • Withdrawal from friends, family, or activities they used to enjoy
  • Changes in sleep, appetite, or energy level
  • Difficulty at school, including trouble focusing, avoiding school, or declining grades
  • Aggressive behavior toward siblings, classmates, or adults
  • Physical complaints like stomachaches or headaches with no medical cause
  • A significant life change, such as a divorce, a move, or the loss of a loved one

You don’t need to have all the answers before you reach out. That’s what the first conversation is for.

How We Help

Individualized, Not One-Size-Fits-All

No two children are the same, and we never treat them that way. Before we do anything else, we take the time to understand your child — their temperament, their history, and what is actually driving the behavior or emotions you are seeing at home. From there, we build a treatment plan that is specific to them.

Our therapists draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, including play therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), art therapy, and attachment-based methods. What matters most is what works for your child.

Play Therapy & Creative Approaches

Young children think and communicate through play. It is not just how they have fun — it is how they process their world. Our child therapists are trained to use play, art, storytelling, and other creative approaches to help kids feel safe and express what they are feeling in a way that talking alone doesn't always allow.

In a session, your child might work through something difficult while playing a game, drawing, or building something. They won't necessarily know they're doing therapeutic work — and that's exactly the point. The playful, low-pressure environment is what allows real progress to happen.

Parents Are Part of the Process

You know your child better than anyone, and that knowledge is a critical part of how we help them. We keep parents involved and informed throughout therapy, offering guidance on how to support your child at home and reinforce the progress they are making in sessions.

Lasting change doesn't happen only in the therapy room. It happens in the daily moments between sessions, when you have the tools to respond to your child in a new way.

Affordable Child Therapy Serving the West San Fernando Valley

We believe every family in the San Fernando Valley deserves access to quality mental health care, and we structure our fees to reflect that. We are a cash-pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. If cost is a concern for your family, please reach out anyway — we will do our best to find an arrangement that works.

Our office is located at 5550 Topanga Canyon Blvd, Suite 150 in Woodland Hills, with easy access for families in Canoga Park, West Hills, Reseda, Van Nuys, Winnetka, and surrounding communities. We also offer virtual therapy sessions for families who prefer to meet from home.
